Kaija Riismaa

Kaija Riismaa has been practicing law since 2007, when she started as an advisor at the Private Law Division of the Legislative Policy Department of the Ministry of Justice. As an advisor, Kaija focused primarily on issues related to contract law and participated in drafting several legal acts, e.g. the Employment Contracts Act and transposition of the Consumer Credit Directive and Consumer Rights Directive into the Law of Obligations Act, amending the provisions of the non-patrimonial damage in the Law of Obligations Act etc. Kaija was also responsible for drafting and presenting national positions for various working groups of European Commission and European Council on issues related to contract law, such as the initiative for Common European Sales Law.

Before joining Law Office NOVE, Kaija was working for the Law Office SORAINEN, where she focused primarily on transactions related to the field of real estate, especially on transactions concerning lease, rental and sale of commercial premises, as well as on encumbering registered immovable with limited real rights. In addition to real estate matters Kaija advised clients also in the fields of labour law and corporate law. Kaija was also involved in major cross-border real estate transactions in the Baltic region, as well as in conducting cross-border mergers and acquisitions.

Kaija has been a lecturer at the University of Tartu faculty of law in Tallinn concerning the civil law. She has also completed her studies at the University of Konstanz in Germany.

At Law Office NOVE Kaija focuses in particular on transactions related to real estate, corporate law and labour law, and increases our dispute resolving competence in the real estate and contract law fields.
